a child's eyes

a lovely soft backlight coming through the window had to be used for an image... sadly I only had this hideous one to take an image of ;) so I did what I could...

Mediteranean energy

the wonderful and inspiring Meryem settling in for a lazy afternoon of cocktails and conversation. I don't think its actually possible to take a bad photo of Meryem, but I think (hope) this captures her character and energy more than most.

always an interesting event. and whilst I have little interest in these things usually when presented with the latest gear its difficult not to revert to being a small boy again.

This is perhaps me at my most natural. Taken with my new 85mm G Master lens to get a feel for the rendering. .

I could pretend this was a studio setting with backdrop and lighting... but it was actually just the en suite in my hotel in Paris... I'd been upgraded to a suite and it had this amazing stone wall floor to ceiling.

the mirror edge light gives an interesting square catchlight in the eyes.

taken in one of my favourite restaurants in Roma. lots of amazing pasta and vino for the first night out exploring the best of Roma.

Eye see you..

Rupert eye.. taken on my Sony 90mm macro handheld. incredibly sharp and a really nice slow falloff on the focus which works really nicely at this framing and really lets the area around the eye to remain in focus just long enough.

what would we do without timers eh..

so the trick with doing a shot like this when you are by yourself is to pick an identifiable spot on the ground to focus on then set the camera counting and go to it and place your eyes in the same plane as the point you focused on.

I'd generally suggest an extra stop closed too on the aperture to give just that bit more DoF.
